A Garden needs to be Understood to Thrive

Years of Experience have given us a deep understanding of growing gardens well.

The following projects are examples of Gardens which have been improved by Artistic Horticulture.

A romantic and soft design full of flowers

This Garden was designed to suit the country style house.

The ground was severely compacted with a very shallow top-soil of shale.

Prevailing winds from the west needed to be considered when planting and occasional heavy frost. Due to tank water plants needed to be drought hardy and an irrigation system was used that had minimal water wastage.

Site Improvements

This site was originally so compacted it couldn’t even grow lawn.

Roses are easy to grow with the right soil, full sun and good air movement.

An empty front yard gets transformed into a lush garden.

This brief was to create a beautiful garden space with an English garden style.

A hand-drawing was required for the owners to visualise the new garden and see what plants would be going where. The proposed garden would provide aesthetically enhanced street presence, some screening from the front room and a garden view, along with flowers to pick for the house.

Finally this client achieved success with a thick green lawn.

This client had become disheartened with his lack of success in his attempts to improve his front lawn and gardens. He didn’t realise his turf was on a sandstone shelf and the nearby Eucalyptus made things even harder. With the right strategy his lawn and the nearby gardens had vast improvements.

A Rocky garden struggling to grow begins to flourish

In this garden the soil was very dry and hydrophobic, after a customised irrigation system and other improvements new plants hardy to the location were able to thrive.

This Residential Property had a steep barren slope.

The poor clay soil and lack of water infiltration due to the slope could only support weeds.

On this brief the clients loved contrasting colours and wanted plants that would grow to improve the aesthetics and value of the house.

They were unable to pay for expensive retaining walls to enable new soil and better water infiltration. Armed with the right knowledge and plants that enjoyed hot sun with lots of air-movement, the bank could be retained to hold new compost and planted out successfully for a spectacular tapestry of colour.
